On October 10, 2024, Chile’s Ministry of Cultures, in collaboration with UNESCO, will host the international seminar “Civil Society as a Driver of Cultural Diversity”. This seminar underscores Chile’s efforts to foster cultural diversity through UNESCO’s 2005 Convention.
I have bee invited to give a keynote on “Opening the Government of Culture” will explore how civil society’s involvement can reshape cultural policies for inclusivity and transparency. I will highlight practical approaches to enhancing access to resources and broadening participation in cultural governance.
Chile’s IV Periodic Report (2020-2024) showcases 54 cultural measures developed with civil society’s input. The country aims to ensure broader support for creative expression by integrating diverse voices into cultural planning. The recognition of Concepción as a UNESCO Creative City of Music further illustrates the transformative impact of creative territories on cultural development.
This seminar will focus on reimagining governance, fostering collaborations, and strengthening civil society’s role in promoting cultural diversity, aiming to open pathways for more equitable cultural policies.
