The following is a selection of projects and initiatives I have been involved with as founder, director, or general coordinator:

Towards an Artistic Activism Research Colab

The Artistic Activism Research CoLab is an international network of researchers interested in studying the field of creative activism at a global level. Created in June of 2022, the CoLab comprises a group of scholars and practitioners from different world regions. The CoLab aims to share and generate resources and new knowledge on artistic activism as experienced locally and internationally.

Alternative Governance and Resource Mobilization

A research project exploring alternative governance and resource mobilization models for arts organizations that will inform the new governance strategy of A Blade of Grass, an organization that nurtures socially engaged art in the United States. The research methodology includes a literature review including international case studies, in-person and virtual Listening Sessions, and one-to-one interviews with ABOG’s constituency and thematic experts.

Open Data and Cultural Sectors

This study explores the relationship between open government data and cultural governance. It includes a report on the situation of the Ministry of Culture of Peru. It provides recommendations for state and non-state actors interested in leveraging open data agendas toward promoting more diverse and democratic systems of cultural governance. The study was developed as a Latin American Initiative for Open Data (ILDA) Fellow.

Asociación Civil Solar

Solar is an organization that promotes open cultural governance in the Americas by strengthening civic engagement, transparency, and public accountability in the cultural sectors. From our perspective, cultural governance has to do not only the arts and cultural heritage but also the promotion of indigenous people’s rights, the defense of freedom of expression, access and enjoyment of public spaces, and the struggle against discrimination.

Agenda de Incidencia Compartida

The Agenda for Shared Advocacy (ASA) is a tool and a strategy sustained by a civic movement that promotes the transformation of cultural policies through civic participation. It results from a co-design process advanced by a national network of cultural organizations aiming to guarantee bottom-up participation and civic consensus building. The 1st version of the Agenda (2017) had more than 600 participants, including 370 cultural organizations in 14 regions of Peru. The 2nd version (2019?(included feedback from the 5th National Summit of Culture in Iquitos.

Programa Descentralizado de Pre/Encuentros

The Decentralized Program of Pre/Encuentros (2016-2017), coordinated by Solar (then Culturaperu.org), was co-designed and advanced by a network of 75 cultural organizations working in 14 regions of Peru. It resulted in the generation of the 1st version of the Agenda for Shared Advocacy (ASA) and a new format for the fifth edition of the National Summit of Culture (ENC). An outcome of this program was the constitution of the Peruvian Alliance of Cultural Organizations (APOC).

AbreCultura

A networking and knowledge generation initiative (2011-2013) about civic processes that promote transparency and civic engagement in public policies for culture in Latin America. This included the first report of experiences promoting these issues in the region and several examples and case studies from Peru and Bolivia.

Datea

As Research and Development Strategist for La Factura, a social enterprise, I co-designed Datea, a platform for collaborative civic mapping. The project received the Fondo Acelerador de Innovaciones Cívicas from the Avina Foundation in 2013.

Save the Huacas

Salvemos las Huacas (2012-2014) was a digital platform for the collaborative mapping of archaeological sites in Peru. It was one of the two Peruvian projects that won the Competition of the Cultural Development Program of the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) in 2012. As co-coordinator of the project, I contributed to the design and deployment of the site.

ENC 2014

Encuentro Nacional de Cultura

The Encuentro Nacional de Cultura (ENC) is a national platform for dialogue, debate, and civic constructions surrounding cultural policy and its relationship with human development. As a founder of the ENC and director of its first four editions, I contributed to its growth as a space for civic exchange and public debate on cultural governance.

Culturaperu.org

Culturaperu.org was a Cultural Information System (CIS) developed by civil society. This database of cultural organizations contributed to activating various initiatives to promote civic engagement in cultural governance.

Realidad Visual

Realidad Visual

A non-profit cultural association that promoted media arts in Peru. It was founded by Jaime E. Oliver, José Aburto, and Mauricio Delfin to promote art and technology initiatives, including exhibitions, international festivals, publications, and the production of a diverse range of artistic expressions.

Festival VAE

Festival VAE

Between 2004 and 2011, Realidad Visual organized four editions of the International Festival of Video and Electronic Arts (Festival VAE).

Distancia Crítica

Distancia Crítica was a magazine of critical thought published between 2004 and 2005. Its five editions gathered texts from authors in Latin America.

Tándem was a think-tank on cultural policies and human development from 2009 to 2014. I worked as a founder, member, and coordinator of technologies.

La Factura was a social enterprise that developed Datea and other projects from 2010 to 2016. I worked as a Founder and Partner from its creation to its closure in 2016.
